AGRICULTURAL WORKERS ADVOCACY COALITION

Advocating for Agricultural workers on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

The Eastern Shore of Virginia is home to approximately 1,500 migrant agricultural workers who reside in over twelve camps from March through October.

These workers, many of whom come from Mexico through the H-2A visa program, play a vital role in the agricultural industry and contribute approximately $10 million to the local economy. However, the work they do is often difficult and dangerous, with exacting standards for productivity. Other Latinx, Haitian, and African-American agricultural workers also come from Florida to work on the Eastern Shore under similar provisions. It is important to recognize the contributions and challenges faced by these workers and to provide them with the support and resources they need to thrive

As we learned more about the struggles faced by migrant workers on the Eastern Shore, we were deeply moved by their resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
